Obituary for Dewell Pitts

Centerville, GA- Dewell Pitts, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at The Lodge in Warner Robins, GA. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at The Bridge Church, 2758 Hwy. 41, Fort Valley, GA 31030. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make donations to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering or your choice any hospice.
Dewell was born on April 19, 1933 in Carrollton, GA to the late John William and Emmie Lee (McIntosh) Pitts. He faithfully and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Bibb County Board of Education where he taught as a teacher, lead as a principal and served on the Board of Education. After his retirement from education, Dewell entered the mission field for the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board. He also served as a volunteer at the Rehoboth Baptist Association in Warner Robins. Dewell was a faithful and active member of The Bridge Church, where he taught Sunday school and served in various other ministries. He loved music; in fact he was a very accomplished musician and writer even having some of his work published. In addition to his parents, Dewell was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela House Crowley and brothers and sister.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Carolyn (Dean) Pitts of Centerville, GA; daughter: Donna Jackson (Scott) of Byron, GA; son: Steven House (Susan) of Glasgow, KY; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
