Obituary for Esther Kaye Bloom (Ragland)
Esther “Kaye" Bloom, 77, of Centerville GA passed peacefully at home on the 24th of January, 2019.
Esther “Kaye” Bloom was born in Edina, Missouri, where she attended St. Joseph Elementary School, and graduated from Edina High School in 1959. After high school, Kaye attended Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, MO, and then transferred to St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Quincy, IL, graduating in 1964 as a Registered Nurse. Kaye’s nursing career served her well, taking her first to a hospital in Kansas City, MO, then on to a Denver, CO hospital. There she met her future husband, Captain Philip Bloom, on the beautiful ski slopes of Vail, Colorado. They were married in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kaye’s hometown of Edina. From the wedding aisle they moved to Toronto Canada and on to a life as an Air Force family. His career took them to numerous and memorable places where she became a mother to three daughters and a long career as a Resisted Nurse. She worked in numerous hospitals, mainly in the operating room, and made many wonderful friends. Kaye and Phil moved to Centerville, GA to be closer to their children, medical, facilities and work.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, James W. and Mary Catherine (nee Sandknop) Ragland, grandparents, John "Dutch” and Esther Sandknop, sister, Mary Ragland, brother-in-law, Jerry Eyler, aunts and uncles, Millie Sandknop, Margaret McEwen , Gerald and Florence Ragland and Bill and Betty Sandknop.
Kaye leaves a loving family of her husband, Philip Bloom, of Centerville, GA, daughters, Allyson Bloom (Darcee) and grandson, Rafe, of Atlanta, GA, Suzanne Bloom of Augusta, GA, and Nicole Bloom of Asheville, NC. Also surviving are: Brother and sister-in- law, James H (Rosalea) Ragland of Iowa City, IA, sister, Ann Eyler of Lewiston, TX, brother-in-law, Jerry Sylvara, LaPata, MO, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Kaye was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. In addition to her nursing career, she was active in the local Catholic Community and enjoyed volunteering at various places. She was a beautiful, kind person who touched the lives of all she met.
A mass in honor of Kaye will be held on 3/23/19 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins, GA.flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to: Parkinson.org or sacredheartwr.org
