Fort Valley, GA – Rita (Odom) Galvan Meadows, 63, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Emory University Hospital Midtown with her beloved family by her bedside. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to and immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make any donations to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Rita was born on October 20, 1954 in Port St. Joe, FL to the late Joseph W. Odom , Laura Rebecca (Lee) Graham and James “Poppy” Graham. She worked for many years as a machine operator at Brown & Williamson Tobacco until the company moved to Winston-Salem, NC. After taking a brief break from working, Rita enrolled in college and after hard work and dedication, received an Associate’s degree in Legal Office Assistance. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping, canoeing and spending time with family and friends, but her greatest joy was her two granddaughters, Mia Claire and Sadie Grace. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jeff Meadows; brother: Rick Odom and nephew, Chris Hildenburg.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jason Lee Galvan of Fort Valley and Jennifer Morton (Brian) of Kathleen; 2 granddaughters: Mia Claire and Sadie Grace Morton; grand dog: King Boy; sisters: Sherry Graham of Augusta and Wanda Guthrie of Angleton, TX; brother: Michael Graham of Augusta; numerous nieces and nephews.
